Essentia Health announced last month that employees would be required to get vaccinated for influenza unless they received a religious or medical exemption.

The Duluth based Essentia Health has fired almost 50 workers w ho did not get a shot and now union leaders are fighting back.

Prabu says the reason the hospital went this way was to protect patients.

The United Steelworkers filed an injunction to try to delay the policy from going into effect, but a federal judge denied that request.

"The flu shot isn't a be all end all it only has a certain efficacy", Strand said. In the USA, six states require health care workers to get the shot to avoid spreading the condition to their patients, who can be more sensitive.
