Infiniti QX50 revealed with high-tech engine

Infiniti has unveiled its forthcoming QX50 SUV ahead of its debut at the LA Motor Show next week.

The 2019 Infiniti QX50 broke cover while most of us napped in a turkey-induced slumber.

In terms of interior packaging for leg-, shoulder- and luggage-space the vehicle is on a par with or betters the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5.

Infinity has announced the 2019 QX50 crossover and it's very cool.

According to Infiniti senior vice president of global design Alfonso Albaisa, the 2019 QX50 will not sacrifice interior space in the name of style. The VC-Turbo unit, which was previewed initially in 2016, is what the company calls "a breakthrough in combustion engine design", and we're inclined to agree.

Infiniti claims that the structure has also enabled a 23 percent improvement in torsional rigidity, reducing flex and vibrations, thus improving refinement.

More so, the new VC-Turbo engine is expected to deliver 27 mpg combined with a front-wheel-drive setup, along with 26 mpg combined with all-wheel drive - the new QX50 should arrive with a 35 percent improvement in fuel efficiency compared to the former generation V6. The relatively nascent luxury brand may be looking for a new flagship with more technology, a defining sedan or crossover to shape the automaker's mold going forward, or a new powertrain to cement its status as a forward-thinking, fuel efficient marque.

Christian Meunier, Infiniti's global division vice president, said: "The QX50 is the most important vehicle we have ever launched, and it embodies everything the brand stands for: attractive design, advanced technology and empowering performance".

Another new technology that debuts with the QX50 is the latest ProPILOT Assist system. The all-wheel drive QX50 can reach 60 miles per hour in 6.3 seconds, while the front-wheel driver version reaches it in 6.7 seconds. It consists of functions that help the driver accelerate, brake and steer the auto in single-lane highway driving conditions, providing autonomous-like functionality, activating at the push of a button.
