The Tel Aviv district court judge's injunction ordering the services to stop from Wednesday came after a court challenge from a taxi drivers' union and a separate ride- hailing app.
The hearing was held following a civil suit filed against Uber's Israeli operations by the Association of Taxi Owners and Gett (previously known as GetTaxi), a global on-demand mobility company that connects customers with transportation, goods and services. Passengers will still be able to hail a taxi using Uber's regular service, whose drivers have the necessary licenses and insurance. It quoted Uber's lawyer as agreeing to "a permanent stay on everything to do with Uber Night and Uber Day operations in their current format".

In another case pending against Uber in Israel, the Transportation Ministry has sued the company in a Tel Aviv court for allegedly charging to take passengers without a taxi license.
At Monday's hearing, Judge Eitan Orenstein criticized Uber on that initiative, including issues of insurance and pricing, which he said do not reflect a reimbursement of expenses but a real payment.
