Florida State hires Willie Taggart as coach

After one year at Oregon, Taggart has reportedly agreed to a deal to become the next head coach at Florida State, according to Sports Illustrated's Bruce Feldman. He was the head coach at the University of OR in December 2016 where coached the Ducks to a record of 7-5 in his first season and finished 4-5 in the Pac-12.

Less than a year after Willie Taggart inspired the Ducks with his tagline "Do Something", Oregon is searching for a new head coach.

At Oregon, Taggart's team was averaging 49.6 points per game as it got off to a 4-1 start. After ending WKU's 26-game losing streak and going 2-10 in his first season, he made strides while going 7-5 in both 2011 and 2012. He arrived in Eugene after four years at South Florida, where he guided the Bulls from a 2-10 record his first year to a 10-2 mark last year and a spot in the Birmingham Bowl.

Taggart is following in Todd Graham territory as the two not hold the only distinction to be the head coach of an FBS program in three straight years.

Taggart will take over for Fisher, who spent eight seasons in Tallahassee and won a national title and three ACC crowns but went through a rocky final week on the job. After quarterback Deondre Francois was injured in the highly-anticipated opener against Alabama, FSU, ranked No. 3 to begin the season, got off to a awful 2-5 start.
