U.S. team planning for Olympics despite confusion in Trump administration

Despite White House speculation over Games status local Olympians not worried about Korea tension

The confusion began when United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley, in response to a question in a Fox News interview, said "There's an open question" about whether the U.S. team would travel to South Korea, where tensions have grown high after a series of missile tests in North Korea and inflammatory rhetoric between its leader, Kim Jong Un, and U.S. President Donald Trump.

"Right, our athletes are invited to participate under the neutral flag, but nobody can limit fans in using the national flag, and we always can support our team", the designer told TASS. "So yes, it definitely got our attention, but I think all's well that ends well, and it was just a little bit of an oversight in terms of language".

The White House did not return CNN's request for further comment on who is responsible for deciding whether athletes will attend.
