But the government argues that the practice of instant triple talaq had not stopped despite the Supreme Court order and that the AIMPLB had not been able to do anything on the issue despite its assurances.

Some of the other bills listed for Winter Session are Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill 2017, Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2016, Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, Constitution (123rd Amendment) Bill 2017, Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes and Protection of Interest of Depositors Interest Bill 2017.

After the meeting, they said, Muslim women will get justice and social equality with the introduction of this bill.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Sunday said that it will request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to withhold and withdraw the proposed bill that criminalises the practice of instant divorce or Triple Talaq.

Snow expected to miss city on Christmas
A total of 1 to 3 inches of accumulation is expected between now and when the advisory runs out at 6 a.m. on Monday. The Ozarks first snow of the season fell this morning along the I-44 corridor, dropping just an inch or two.

As a matter of public policy, offences relating to marriage, as long as they do not result in any physical harm to the wife, are made non-cognizable and subject to judicial oversight to prevent third parties from seeking redressal of wrongs committed between two parties.

Indian Muslims were looking at AIMPLB for guidance after the triple talaq SC verdict but board members failed to reach any common ground about the next course of action.

"In other religions women have right to place their side and have legal protection, but to deny the muslim women the same rights goes against the principle of equality and hence triple talaq can not be justified", said Naik.

"Going by the provisions of the Bill, it seems the government wants to snatch the right of divorce from men". In response to demands for legislation, a Bill is already being enacted.

Mumbai gets India's first fully-AC local train
Weekly, fortnightly and monthly season tickets would be charged the equivalent of 5, 7.5 and 10 single journeys of the AC local. For the first week, the authorities will run the train for only six times every day between Churchgate and Borivli stations.

The draft bill also envisages entitling divorcee Muslim women for maintenance.

The fact that the government did not consult the All India Muslim Personal Law Board - a non-governmental organisation that oversees the application of Muslim personal law in the country - before drafting the Bill further bolsters the argument that little or no thought has been paid to the consequences of criminalising instant triple talaq. "If this bill becomes law, women will face a host of difficulties", Maulana Nomani said.

At one hand, AIMPLB terms the Bill against sharia and on the other hand, complaints about not being consulted before the lawmaking.
