Sony might be announcing three new phones at CES 2018

Sony Xperia XA2

The new Sony Xperia XA2 series

As Sony prepares to update three of its low to mid-range offerings - Xperia XA, XA Ultra, and L1 - leaks are happening fast.

Either way, despite a broad palette of color options, the Sony Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra and Xperia L2 look anything but eye-catching, with thick "chins" and "foreheads", rather bland backplates, and plastic still seemingly running the build material show.

LG unveils 4K projector capable of outputting 150-inch projection
Models pose with LG Electronics Inc.'s 4K UHD projector in this photo released by the company on January 5, 2018. Also, it can be connected to external speakers or soundbars through optical output, Bluetooth or HDMI.

From the pictures, it has become painfully obvious that Sony is sticking with large bezels on top and bottom of the devices to house front camera, sensors, and the company logo. The biggest change between these and the older models is the use of the Snapdragon 630 chipset instead of a MediaTek equivalent. There is also a 7-megapixel sensor in the front.

As far as the specs are concerned, the Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra are all set to feature an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor which has been clocked at 2.2GHz. Both are reported to come in two configurations based on 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage version. Both the phablet and its 5.2-inch baby brother are expected to feature a single 21MP or so rear shooter, while the Xperia L2 is more mysterious, probably settling for a 720p 5.2 or 5.5-inch display and Android Nougat software out the box.

SpaceX Zuma Launch On January 7, Falcon Heavy To Fly January End
Originally planned for a launch Thursday, January 4, then delayed until Friday, January 5 and now delayed until Sunday January 7. Musk also says that the Falcon Heavy will be "the most powerful rocket in the world by a factor of two".

The Xperia XA2 will sport a newer 5.2-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display, while the Xperia XA2 Ultra is expected to borrow the 6-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display from its predecessor.

First up is the Sony Xperia XA1, the flagship entry in the series. As for the XA2 Ultra, the smartphone may have the same rear camera along with dual 15MP front-facing cameras, which too may be able to record 4K videos.

HP Issues Recall of 50000 Laptop Batteries Due to Fire Risk
HP says the batteries are not customer replaceable, and that it will replace them for free with an authorized technician. In the meantime, HP recommends updating the BIOS and enabling Battery Safety, which will pop up when rebooting.

There's a slight chance all three phones will be revealed at CES next week, but an MWC launch in February is more likely, especially considering the images have the date Sunday 25 February in their displays.
