The start of the new year saw an increase in gas prices, with the national average price for a gallon of gasoline costing $2.49, an increase of five cents on the week.
Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg of the Lundberg Survey said Sunday that the increase is due to higher crude oil costs.
Sunday national gas price average is $2.49, which unchanged in the last week, up a penny in the last month and 12 cents higher than this time previous year. In Massachusetts, it's still 19 cents higher than at this time a year ago, when prices were averaging $2.29.
