Here's what's coming with PS4's big 5.50 update

Upcoming Update Features PS4 Supersampling Mode

PS4 firmware 5.50 new features include library UI updates, Supersampling Mode, custom wallpapers, more

A select few people, starting today, have access to the beta program and all of its awesome new features that Sony has made a decision to share with us today via a sneak peek. The new system software will introduce supersampling for Ps4 Pro, play time management, library UI improvements and more. The system is set up to notify your child during gameplay so that he/she knows when they should save and quit. Sony wrote, "If needed, the family manager/guardians can apply playtime restrictions to make sure that the child is only playing for a set amount of time or within set playable hours". Here's Sony's official blurb, courtesy of the PlayStation Blog.

Following on from this, there's a new function that lets you hide certain apps under the purchased tab in the Library. Just be aware, similar to when playing a game on disc or via digital download on PS4, background music may not always be available. Notifications can be sent to warn the player about the upcoming cutoff, although you can decide whether or not the time limit immediately signs the users out or not. With the 5.5 update, you can insert a flash drive that has the image you want, and set it as your background from the Themes tab in Settings.

If You Get the Flu, When Should You Go to the ER?
This flu season is turning out to be one of the worse since the 2009 "swine flu" epidemic, CDC officials said last week. Smith also said that the number of deaths likely will get much higher before the season is over.

One of my favorite new features is that you can now use your own custom wallpaper by plugging in a USB device.

How Josh McDaniels' Hiring Impacts These Two Patriots Assistants
This basically confirms Belichick will be back coaching next season, and now the team needs to find a new offensive coordinator. In fact, the Patriots will get a full load of former Pats, as New England will play the Titans, Colts and Lions next year.

Another section of the library allows you to see what games you now own through PlayStation Plus, keeping in mind that you'll lose access to said games should your subscription lapse. The PS4 tab will show you all of the games and apps installed on the PlayStation, while the PSN ID tab will show you all of the content purchased by that individual user. You can also now manually delete notifications. Music controls for Spotify, the media player and USB music player apps are coming to the quick menu. The family managers/guardians also have the option to add extra game time via their smartphone or PC. If one's PS Plus membership is expired, a PS Plus icon with a lock appears next to games obtained from PS Plus. Last but not least, there's a new option for tournament team pages that lets you customize logo and backgrounds as well as edit the profile of your team. Easy as that. Aside from this nifty feature that Sony is bringing for PS4 Pro users, there are a few other handful features and benefits coming as well. Though not applicable to all games, it still allows PS4 Pro owners who haven't upgraded their television to see an improvement to image clarity. If you lack a 4K television, this new mode takes games that are rendering at higher than 1080p and downscales that output to your television. With the beta in full swing, Sony is detailing what testers can expect from 5.50.
