For the three months from October through December, Apple delivered 13.2 million slates; that was up.6% from the 13.1 million that it shipped during the same quarter in 2016. Just in November a year ago, global tablet market and shipments were reported on a decline.
Android shipments fell to 34.8 million units worldwide in Q4 2017, down 13% from 39.9 million a year earlier and up 28% sequentially on high seasonality. That took the company's market share from 9.6% to 15.6%.

Apple maintained a solid lead in the holiday quarter driving growth both through its lower-priced 9.7-inch iPad as well as its newly refreshed iPad Pro products. Huawei was the only remaining OEM with improved shipments, having grown its business by 11.9-percent during the quarter which amounted to 3.5 million slates shipped during the period.
Figures from analyst firm IDC show that overall tablet shipments fell by 6.5 percent to 163.5 million units past year. Cupertino's focus on the iPad Pro should continue this year.

Unlike Samsung whose business model is to sell devices at a profit, Amazon sells tablets at cost price or less as a gateway to Amazon's services. The total amount comes to 41.6 million units, which is still less than the entire tablet unit sales by Apple a year ago.
