Trump defends two staffers who resigned after domestic violence allegations

Trump did not express sympathy for the two women who this week gave graphic accounts of the verbal and physical abuse they said they suffered while married to Porter, who resigned on Wednesday.

This comes after General Kelly was criticized by some outside of the White House for his handling of aide Rob Porter, who stepped down following domestic abuse allegations.

On Saturday, Trump tweeted that "lives are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation". Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) that said, "If [Trump] wants due process for the over dozen sexual assault allegations against him, let's have Congressional hearings tomorrow".

One of Mr Porter's former wives, Jennifer Willoughby, obtained a restraining order against him, while the other, Colbie Holderness, presented a photograph of herself with a black eye, which she said came from being hit by Mr Porter while the couple was on vacation in Italy.

While passengers still have to change at Brussels, there are ten trains running from there to London each day. Tickets will go on sale from 20 February when the inaugural service will take place.

The latest imbroglios involving White House personnel are taking place during a turbulent cultural conversation about sexual harassment, with powerful people being laid low by allegations that sometimes stretch back decades. "We immediately confronted the staffer, he denied the allegations and he resigned today", Shah said.

Many White House senior staff members remained stunned by the accusations against Porter, a well-liked and seemingly mild-mannered graduate of Harvard and Oxford.

In an interview with CNN, Porter's ex-wife Jennifer Willoughby detailed allegations of abuse, saying that during her marriage she lived under a "low-grade constant terror of not knowing what I might do to set something off".

Trump said he was saddened by the charges but pointed out that Porter has denied the accusations. Among them was Roy Moore, the former Republican Senate candidate in Alabama, who is accused of molesting teenage girls.

Cordeiro has also previously served as treasurer, chair of the Budget Committee and Director of the U.S. But if there were two establishment candidates, as many felt there were, Cordeiro was one of them.

Despite his call for "due process", Trump has a history of issuing condemnations and promulgating conspiracies based on "a mere allegation". Kelly was aware of the allegations well before they were publicly disclosed.

"Rob Porter has been effective in his role as staff secretary". At the end of the session, according to people with knowledge of his remarks, Kelly volunteered that he had something he wanted to "clarify". Among the names being considered: Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Rep. Mark Meadows and CIA Director Mike Pompeo. Most West Wing offices remained dark.

Those efforts appear to have succeeded for months, at least in part because of the willingness of a virtually all-male staff in the top echelons of the West Wing to believe a talented male colleague over women they had never met.

More importantly, though, the fact that this leaked out so quickly suggests Kelly has lost the confidence of his staff.

U.S. massacre of Syrian troops threatens to unleash wider war
The comments by Mattis came on the heel of deadly US-led coalition air strikes which killed some 100 pro-Syrian government forces. It also said it was aware only of 25 Syrian militia members having been wounded in the United States strikes.

Meanwhile, a number of Democrats denounced Trump's comments about Porter and his lack of empathy for the women who alleged abuse. "He has said this in the past about incidents that relate to him as well".
