The cold forecast comes just weeks after the region felt the chill of the Beast from the East, which closed roads, disrupted travel and closed schools across the country.

In the video above, Met Office presenter Alex Deakin explains where and why it's likely to get much colder.

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice is also in place between 5pm on Friday until 9am on Saturday for the east of England.

The Met Office issued the yellow warning today (March 14) and told people to expect delays and hazardous conditions when travelling on Sunday (March 18).

One factor that may have pushed CFIUS to move quickly was a unusual maneuver by Broadcom to relocate to the United States. One explanation appears to be inherent suspicion of Broadcom amongst the "powers that be" in the US.

The Chief Forecaster's assessment said: "Rain will increasingly turn to hill snow above around 200m during Friday evening".

A spokesman for the Met Office said: "Snow showers are likely throughout Sunday, and where these coverage some snow may well accumulate and could then prove disruptive".

But temperatures will definitely feel colder than they are now, with the mercury dropping to 5C on Sunday and possibly even zero in some rural areas.

BBC weather forecaster Ben Rich warned weather watchers of the un-springlike temperatures ahead.
