Japan not satisfied with N. Korea pledge, will continue pressure: defence chief

North Korea conducted its sixth nuclear test in September deep underground at the Punggye-ri nuclear test site in North Hamgyong province.

UN Ambassador Nikki Haley welcomed the announcement and praised the UN Security Council for coming together to achieve this goal.

North Korea says its quest for nuclear weapons is "complete" and it "no longer needs" to test its weapons capability, a significant development ahead of diplomatic engagement with South Korea and the United States.

This Saturday, the unilateral decision was made public during the extraordinary plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Jong-Un recalled to party leaders that at the end of 2017 this country completed its nuclear program and since then to this date the worldwide situation had changed in a favorable way to the country.

Kim Jong-un has announced North Korea will suspend all missile tests and plans to close the site where its six previous nuclear tests were conducted ahead of landmark talks with Donald Trump.

North Korea has always been a source of worry for the world at large.

Penguins hope Malkin, Hornqvist ready for Game 6 against Flyers
Couturier posted a career-high 76 points in the regular season but has just two goals in 21 National Hockey League playoff starts. Neuvirth was dressed as the backup for Game 4 coming off a lower body injury that prevented him from dressing since March 28th.

He also says he's looking forward to his upcoming summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also welcomed the North Korean statement but said it must lead to action.

The North has long demanded the withdrawal of United States troops from the peninsula and an end to its nuclear umbrella over South Korea, something unthinkable in Washington.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called North Korea's decision a "positive step forward".

In an earlier statement released by his office, Guterres wished the two Koreas ahead of their April 27 summit "every success in their courageous and important task of resuming honest dialogue leading to sustainable peace on the Korean Peninsula".

North Korea has said over the years that it could consider giving up its nuclear arsenal if the United States removed its troops from South Korea and withdrew its so-called nuclear umbrella of deterrence from South Korea and Japan.

The agency quoted Kim as saying during the meeting: "Nuclear development has proceeded scientifically and in due order and the development of the delivery strike means also proceeded scientifically and verified the completion of nuclear weapons".

'In terms of the pressure campaign, things we are very interested in are maintaining the pressure, meaning enforcing sanctions, ensuring that the North is not able to get access to funds that help further his nuclear and ballistic missile programmes'.

Kim extended an invitation to South Korea's leader to go to Pyongyang, and the two agreed to meet Friday at the heavily fortified DMZ. Kim has committed himself to the path of denuclearization and will now focus exclusively on economic growth and improving the national economy, the source said.

The announcements came days before North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is set to meet South Korean President Moon Jae-in in a border truce village for a rare summit aimed at resolving the nuclear standoff with Pyongyang.

The Korean Workers' Party's Central Committee declared it a "great victory" in the country's official "byungjin" policy line of simultaneously pursuing economic and nuclear development.
