Today, Google is launching the biggest revamp of Gmail in years. A clean look for Gmail on the web, with features like Smart Reply, the ability to snooze emails, and offline support and many more are introduced in the lastest interface of Gmail. The new Gmail, as you can guess, is all about these little, intuitive changes which are clearly created to tackle its competitors like Outlook which up until now, had a much more tempting set of features.
The new design is now rolling out to regular Gmail users.
If you're a personal Gmail user, you can turn on the new version via the Settings in the top-right. Furthermore, you can select a message to expire after a set period of time. The company is bringing a popular feature from secure chatting apps to Gmail: disappearing messages. This new option will allow the mail to time-limit its access to recipients and will also require them to enter a one-time passcode sent to their phones to read it. That can protect data even if a recipient's account has been hacked, Google says.
Google is giving Gmail a makeover
To start clearing out some of that inbox clutter, Gmail will now recommend mailing lists to unsubscribe from, based on how often you get these mass mailings versus how often you actually read them. As you can probably guess from the name, the tool will help users who want to be extra cautious about how their emails are accessed.
The nudging feature is also a reminder mechanism, except it displays the reminder in text next to the email if you haven't responded to it in a few days. On mobile, a new setting will let you limit notifications to just the important messages.
"Inbox enhancers." If an email includes a photo, document, or other attachment, you'll see a clickable "chip" below the subject line in your inbox, allowing you to go directly to the attached item. And if you get a message that's supposedly from one of your contacts, but which originates from an unfamiliar email address-possibly because it's really from a phisher-Gmail will tell you that something may be amiss.

A new Confidential Mode is perhaps the biggest security/privacy investment out of this batch of announcements.
In addition, confidential emails don't ever get saved locally - they're in the cloud and you need to have a 2FA code to access them.
What do you make of Gmail's new features?

This expansion describes automated programmes that can, among other things, identify spam and predict which emails users would find most important. Google said that the new experience is available for businesses to start using today in the G Suite Early Adopter Programme, and can be turned on in the admin console. It will push emails it identifies as important to the top of your inbox, but only three a day. The lack of the ability to snooze emails has remained one of the glaring shortcomings of Gmail, and I'm glad Google will finally address it. Those seem like the priorities of the business users, and there is a distinct sense among the series of changes that Google has made, which everyone is going to be treated a lot more like business customers of Google.
