After the attack on the church, the herdsmen proceeded to shoot residents in the area and set fire to around 50 homes, according to survivor Peter Iorver, whose stepmother had been a victim.

The victims were said to be taking refuge in the church after being displaced by the raging herdsmen crisis in the area.

"The attackers also burnt several houses and farmland, as we speak the entire area has been deserted". The wounded have been transferred to a hospital Makurdi.

Yesterday killings come on the heels of the killing of two (2) priests and 17 worshippers during a burial ceremony in Mbalom, Gwer local government as well as the murder of about 35 persons in Guma, Governor Samuel Ortom home country on Wednesday.

CAN called on Chrisians to protest peacefully in churches on Sunday against the killings.

"Christians are to carry placards with inscriptions meant to address issues about sustained killings, attacks and destruction of their property in Nigeria". No excuse should be given for this wicked act again and perpetrators must be brought to book now.

"CAN notes that the failure of the government to raise an effective campaign against the killings by herdsmen is the reason they have continued to kill, while there is no visible plan to pacify the aggrieved", the statement read.
