USA rapper XXXTentacion killed in shooting

The Broward Sheriff's Office tweeted that law enforcement was responding to a shooting incident in Deerfield Beach, about 40 miles north of Miami.

Brandon Lang, a 29-year-old magazine owner, said XXXTentacion may have had an angry persona in his performance, but in reality he "did good things", pointing out that he had come home to perform in an upcoming charity show.

XXXTentacion began recording in 2013 and found mainstream success with his 2017 debut album 17, which hit No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and spawned some minor-hit singles.

Before authorities released the name of the victim, citing the need to identify his next of kin, TMZ published a video of a man it reported as XXXTentacion who was slouched in the driver's seat of a vehicle and surrounded by onlookers as sirens blazed nearby. Authorities say XXXTentacion was shot outside a Deerfield Beach motorcycle dealership Monday afternoon.

Born Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy and raised in South Florida, the rapper would go on to court both success and extreme controversy as XXXTentacion.

He was in a black BMW i8 and preparing to leave before 4pm when two armed suspects approached him. "At least one of the suspects fired a gun striking Onfroy".

TMZ reported that a judge recently granted his request to be let off house arrest so he could tour.

In May, Spotify removed XXXTentacion's music from its official playlists and recommendation features, citing a new policy targeted at "hate content and hateful conduct".
