Box office estimates are in and Marvel Studios officially has its twentieth straight number one film with Ant-Man and the Wasp, as the film opened with an impressive $76 million stateside.
Superheroes continue to dominate the summer box office.
Praise seems to be strong for "Ant-Man and the Wasp", which holds a promising 86 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Between the billion dollar grossing tallies for Infinity War and Marvel's Black Panther, plus the impressive $727 million worldwide total now posted by Fox's Deadpool 2, superhero movies have made up 57 percent of the total box office in 2018. More than that, while Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne are no doubt the heroes kicking butt in the field, that doesn't mean that actors Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer weren't going to ever suit up as the original Ant-Man and Wasp, as you can see in the image below.

The secretary of state asserted that the Taliban understands USA resolve and is "beginning to see that they can not wait us out". On New Year's Day, a USA soldier was killed and four others wounded in combat operations in the eastern province of Nangarhar.
Globally, Ant-Man and the Wasp debuted with $85 million from international markets, giving the sequel a worldwide opening of $161 million, adding to the $17 billion global haul of all the movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
But where does "Ant-Man and the Wasp" place in the pantheon?
Ant-Man and the Wasp will most certainly be on track to exceed the $180.2 million domestic, $339.1 million foreign and $519.3 million worldwide marks put up by the original Ant-Man, likely topping out between $250 million and $300 million domestic and $700 million and $750 million worldwide. All 20 films have opened No. 1 at the box office. While those numbers still fall far below the studio's blockbusters from earlier this year, Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, they prove that there is still an audience for these beloved title characters played by Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily, even if it's not quite as big as other MCU hits.
