Blue Jays to focus on arms race

J.A. Happ

Brandon Drury has burning desire to prove Blue Jays were right to nab him

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman had been courting the Blue Jays over Happ for a while, exchanging multiple negotiations based on how both teams were playing and Happ was pitching. Happ has struggled recently - he's allowed 26 runs in his last five starts and 31.1 innings - so the Yankees are clearly banking on his track record.

Happ is due $13 million this season and is a free agent in 2019. Happ is the flawless choice to fix the Yankees pitching needs.

Being traded at the deadline is nothing new for Happ. Happ is 10-6 with a 4.18 ERA in 114 innings pitched for the Blue Jays this season. Over the last three years he is 4-1 with a 1.84 ERA.

NEW YORK-To the New York Yankees, lefty J.A. Happ put check marks in a lot of boxes-familiar with the AL East, comfortable in the postseason and perhaps most importantly, successful against the Boston Red Sox.

The Yankees have been trying to add a starter since the offseason and they finally landed one. Before landing on the disabled list in mid-May, Stroman posted a 7.71 ERA in his first seven starts of the season. It remains to be seen what the new rotation will look like, but a four-man rotation in the playoffs (if they earn a bid) might look like Severino, Tanaka, Sabathia and Happ.

The Yankees have positioned themselves as perhaps the most aggressive buyer in this summer's trade market.

"(The Jays) just said, 'be ready to play.

Drury played in just 10 games for NY since and spent most of the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. "We felt when we returned him back to third, we could get him back in the comfort level he was and he could unlock some of the potential in the swing because there were some things we saw that we felt allowed for more in the tank in terms of production".

The additions of Britton and Happ are not going to vault the Yankees past the Red Sox. The Yankees are Happ's sixth big league team, as reported by ESPN. "I'm excited to get over there and get in the lineup and finish the season up strong with the Blue Jays", Drury said. He also hit.230 with 13 home runs and 35 RBIs in 62 games in the Minor Leagues.
