Report: 5 killed in CA when plane crashes into parking lot

Orange County Fire Authority Captain Steve Concialdi says the Cessna was heading to the airport when it came down and struck an empty parked vehicle in the lot of a Staples store.

The FAA confirmed the pilot, who had reportedly renewed his license a year ago, declared an emergency just before they crashed, and will work with NTSB authorities to investigate the cause of the crash.

Another was 29-year-old Nasim Ghanadan, who saw Hakimi as a mentor in the real estate industry, Ghanadan's brother said.

The plane was running on 100 octane gas, which spilled during the crash, OCFA Capt. Steve Concialdi said. The victims have been identified as workers from a San Francisco real estate consulting firm.

By Monday, the coroner had identified the five as: Pilot Scott Shepherd and wife Lara Shepherd of Diablo, Nasim Ghanadan of Alamo, and Floria Hakimi of Danville and her son Navid Hakimi of Los Angeles.

According to NBC Los Angeles, the flight tower at a nearby John Wayne Airport gave approval for the aircraft to land at one of its runways after the plane's pilot declared an emergency, before ultimately crashing.

There was no explosion upon impact, but the plane fell on a red Chevrolet sedan and damaged 3 other cars in the parking lot. "I just knew- as low as it was and the way that it flipped-that's not a trick." said Darling-Daniel.

The same address was also listed for Floria and Navid Hakimi.

Friends and associates said all five were employees of Pacific Union International.

The 1973 Cessna 414 was registered to Category III Aviation San Francisco company and had flown from the San Francisco Bay area suburb of Concord, according to FAA records.
