Novak Djokovic has drawn level with American great Pete Sampras with the third-most men's grand slam singles titles following a straight-sets victory over Juan Martin del Potro in the US Open final at Flushing Meadows.
This was Djokovic's third championship in NY, along with those in 2011 and 2015.
Playing on the same court where Pete Sampras claimed his 14th title, Djokovic has endured more disappointment than joy on Arthur Ashe, mining just three titles from eight finals.
He missed last year´s tournament with an elbow injury which sent his career into a mini-crisis.
However, speaking after winning his 14 Grand Slam title, Djokovic admitted that the chair umpire changed the course of the game.
