In a Wednesday blog post, Google said it plans to shut down the email product at the end of March 2019 "to focus exclusively on Gmail". One Inbox feature that I use extensively - grouped emails - isn't yet in Gmail and there is no word as to when, or if, it will be coming to Gmail. Google did no longer stammer why it used to be shutting down Inbox, which used to be launched in 2014 and pitched as a more nimble and experimental email app than the older Gmail app. But have seen a lot of features from Inbox trickling down to Gmail, making the primary app even more competent and feature packed.

Some of the other features which included "Highlights" to being important emails front and center, "Reminders" that reminded users about upcoming events and "Assists" which works with reminders to provide additional information. Hopefully, that feature will show up before Inbox finally disappears next March. The Inbox app will be completely removed from all stores. Gmail now has the same Smart Reply feature that is able to provide contextual suggestions based on the email received. There have always been speculations about the the uncertain future of the Inbox since Google launched the new Gmail earlier this year. But fast-forward 30 years and with just the phone in your pocket, you can use email to contact virtually anyone in the world...from your best friend to the owner of that bagel shop you discovered last week.
