The U.S. official who oversees the federal investigation into Russia's role in the 2016 U.S. election suggested secretly recording President Donald Trump past year and recruiting Cabinet members to invoke a constitutional amendment to remove him from the White House, the New York Times reported on Friday.

The 25th amendment provides for the removal of a president deemed unfit for office.

Marie Harf added that some people in Washington could want to goad Trump into firing Rosenstein and setting off "some kind of constitutional crisis".

The deputy attorney general oversees special counsel Robert Mueller III's investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election and whether any Trump associates conspired in those efforts. The Department of Justice has already handed over about 880,000 documents to Congress, but conservatives are seeking more, alleging the Justice Department is hiding information.

He said he would get rid of it just as his administration "had gotten rid of bad people at the FBI".

Rod Rosenstein denies discussing 25th amendment effort to remove Donald Trump

Rosenstein made the remarks at a meeting with McCabe and four senior Justice officials to discuss his role in Comey's firing.

"The New York Times's story is inaccurate and factually incorrect", he said.

The White House, as of Friday evening, had not commented specifically on the story.

"If these allegations are true, they are very serious allegations and I would say, yes, Mr. Rosenstein would be well-advised to step aside, the president and the attorney general would be well within their right to terminate his employment".

"We believe our first duty is to this country, and the president continues to act in a manner that is detrimental to the health of our republic", the writer said.

Graham says Kavanaugh accusations aimed at delay
This person was allegedly sober at the party and is "100% sure" that it was Brett Kavanaugh about whom he had heard a story. Ramirez is cited by the New Yorker as saying Kavanaugh exposed himself to her during a drunken dormitory party.

Like I said, it's explosive.

Rosenstein has been a frequent punching bag for Trump supporters for appointing Special Counsel Robert Mueller in May 2017 to take over a federal probe of suspected Russian meddling in the USA election and potential coordination between Moscow and the Trump campaign. The official, who spoke anonymously to Politico, called Rosenstein a "straight shooter" and said his repudiation of TheNYT's article was believable.

"They're hoping he gets mad, that he gets sick and exhausted of it and that they can turn this politically into their version of a Friday Night Massacre", Hannity said Friday, adding that the "deep state is crumbling from within".

"But let me be clear about this: Based on my personal dealings with the president, there is no basis to invoke the 25th Amendment", Rosenstein said.

On Friday, Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump, Jr., tweeted the Times story and said: "Shocked!"

Tiger Woods wins again
He fired a 62 earlier this month and has also done enough to force himself into the U.S. team for next week's Ryder Cup. You really need to see it to believe it. 'I think they understand a little bit of what dad does now, ' Woods said.

The latest reports were based on private memos written by then-interim Federal Bureau of Investigation director Andrew McCabe, summarising discussions with Rosenstein.

After trashing McCaskill for her recent announcement that she won't support the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh, Trump tied the result of the midterms directly to his presidency.

McCabe and Page both wrote their own notes about the meetings, and while Page's notes also mention Rosenstein bringing up the idea of putting a wire on someone to record Trump, Page's notes do not reflect any suggestion that Rosenstein was joking, according to one source familiar with the matter.

Rosenstein was rankled by the revelation that Comey had kept memos about his interactions with the president; McCabe wanted a more aggressive approach toward the White House, the person said.
